How does it compare?
Range
Starting with range, the HongQi E-HS9 promises an impressive 510 kilometers (317 miles) on a single charge, a figure that confidently competes with the 373 kilometers (232 miles) of the Audi e-tron and the 470 kilometers (292 miles) of the Jaguar I-PACE. The BMW iX manages 480 kilometers (298 miles), and the top dog in range, the Tesla Model X, clocks in at around 561 kilometers (349 miles). So the E-HS9 finds itself respectably in the mid-to-high range performance tier.
Acceleration
When it comes to going from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph), the HongQi E-HS9 impresses with a snappy 4.8 seconds. Its nipping at the heels of the BMW iX which does it in 4.6 seconds, but falls just shy of the blistering 4.5 seconds from the Audi e-tron. The Jaguar I-PACE is right around the same neighborhood at 4.8 seconds too, while the Tesla Model X leaves the competition in its dust with a lightning-fast 3.8 seconds. Hence, while the E-HS9 isn’t the fastest, it’s no slouch either.
Power
Powerwise, the HongQi E-HS9 comes equipped with a hearty 436 horsepower, which stands robust against the Audi e-trons 402 horsepower, and the Jaguar I-PACEs 394 horsepower. The BMW iX offers a respectable 516 horsepower, while the Tesla Model X, king of the hill, boasts up to 670 horsepower in its top versions. Clearly, in terms of raw pony count, the E-HS9 stands comfortably in the middle of this electrified muscle parade.
Charging Time
Regarding charging, the HongQi E-HS9 sports a 99 kWh battery, requiring around 8 hours for a full charge with standard AC and about 40 minutes for an 80% charge on a DC fast charger. The Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-PACE both feature 95 kWh batteries, but with slightly quicker filling times relative to capacity, while the BMW iX and Tesla Model X use 100 kWh and 98 kWh respectively, offering similar quick charging capabilities. Nothing too dramatic in differences here.
Price
In terms of price, the HongQi E-HS9 is marketed at approximately USD 113,000, GBP 87,000, or EUR 103,000. This places it in the high-ticket segment along with the Audi e-tron at around USD 99,000, the Jaguar I-PACE at USD 105,000, the BMW iX starting at USD 83,200 and climbing depending on trims, and the Tesla Model X which can range from USD 79,990 to well over USD 120,000 depending on the features. So the E-HS9 is quite competitively priced against its counterparts.
There you have it, the HongQi E-HS9 does more than just sing in Mandarin—it speaks the universal language of high-end, highly capable electric SUVs, duking it out admirably with some of the best the West has to offer.
